ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Overall in my paintings, my interest lays mainly in form, whatever my subject matter.  Color is very important to me as well, largely intuitive, related often to mood or energy.

I spent  more than a year concentrating solely on horses as my subject of focus due to my lifelong love and fascination with these animals.
I am currently enjoying experimenting with portraiture and a wide variety of subject matter –  travel, nature, memories, even stories told to me by my daughter.

Appreciating both abstraction and figuratism, I often find myself combining both in a single painting as well as incorporating graphite within the confines of the oil painting or oil bar with acrylics.  I enjoy experiencing the contrast of paint's fluidity and the precision of drawing and often find them quite compatible.  I've also started employing encaustics which is fabulous fun!!

Another artistic adventure is illustrating a children’s book…have a look at www.blackberricat.com or http://introducingblackberri.blogspot.com or go straight to www.blurb.com and look for "Blackberri's Bacon Cookies"...be warned, you may be tempted by many other fun books on the site as well .
